No. 3 in the Light Coming in Through Cracks Series.
Unaltered found metal on mixed media and plywood. 24” x 24” x 2.5”.
This tin can was found half-submerged in sand along the banks of a nearby river not far from Yellowstone National Park. This piece of found object sat on the floor of my car for probably over a year while I was still in my gathering phase, which I guess I'm always in. I just didn't know what to do with it yet, and hadn't yet conceptualized this series.
I chose this piece because I just love how the weathered it is. How crinkled and compromised the can became. Crêpe-y, even. And how it was crushed from the side in such a way. It begs the usual questions, as all my found objects seem to. What was in it? Who handled it last? How long had it been there? How many feet of snow have been piled on top of it? And of course, what did it hold?
